De-Stress Workshop Introduction
Three Energy Recovery strategies for Professionals / Corporate Executives / Conscious Entrepreneurs feeling overworked, overwhelmed and burnt out!
The following three Energy recovery strategies are simple and can be immediately practiced and or made part of your daily regime if you would like to considerably reduce and change the way you relate to Stress.
Recognise you are enough
When on the corporate and professional treadmill, it often feels that no matter how much you have achieved, success is somewhere else. There is the nagging anxiety or fear of not quite making it, or fear of not being good enough, often even when you are outwardly achieving very high levels of success. When not addressed these feelings can eat away at your enjoyment of your work and contribution no matter how well you do, or how far you have reached. So how can you counter these thoughts and feelings?
Remind yourself that you are enough, no matter where you are. This is the truth, you are incredible and you know it. There is nothing you have to prove. Resist the tendency to judge or compare yourself with others, who you might perceive as being either ahead of you or less than in some way.
Take time to be present
Being present means having all your attention in the here and now, as opposed to being focussed on the future, or in thoughts of the past. Being present allows you to appropriately focus on what needs attention now. When you are not present you may be anxiously focussed on how much still needs to be done, or still beating yourself or resenting something that happened yesterday. These are signs of being lost in psychological time.
Why is this important?
- every opportunity you take to become present, allows you to become clearer as you return to your task
- it allows your intuition to present you with helpful guidance , insights and for creativity to flow.
- You can allow your best work to flow through you, almost effortlessly. You are getting out of your own way
- As well as being able to get a lot more done, you get to enjoy yourself along the way.
A couple of easy ways to become present, are
Open and Listen - Take a few deep breaths, breathing progressively slower and deeper. Notice and become aware of how your body feels. Begin to listen to your body as well as to your immediate sensory environment, sights, sounds, smells and kinesthetic stimuli.
Begin a practice of Mindfulness. Simply pay attention to your thoughts and recognise how these are constantly taking you away from the present moment. Bring your attention back to breath and body, just doing this a couple of minutes at a time, will allow you to re-center and become more present.
Don’t allow stress to accumulate - release it now!
When you allow life stresses or work related challenges to accumulate, this exacts a toll on the body and mind which can get progressively more challenging till we pay attention and listen to the messages our body is giving us. When you don’t listen you may be setting yourself up for trouble further along the way. You can address this right now, instead.
Night time practice-
Before going to bed each night, make sure you make a habit of releasing all of the days events, whether good or bad, handing over any concerns to your higher mind for resolution as you sleep.
Forgive yourself or anyone else that needs forgiving, or make an intention to do so if you feel you are not yet ready to release. Congratulate yourself and celebrate the good and the successes, as you look forward to the next day. Then let go of the day and release yourself in to a peaceful night’s rest.
Daytime practice-
Beyond the night time release, be aware of all the stressors you are picking up from your environment as you go about your day. Notice what you are resisting or in conflict with, and when you have a few minutes take the time to process these feelings by welcoming them and then releasing these feelings. To release unwelcome emotions, it is helpful to first allow them to be there and to acknowledge their presence, before inviting these feelings to shift and let go. It is our resistance to feeling them that is what keeps them in place.
In the workplace our environment may often not be so conducive to acknowledging and processing feelings, and the logical or linear mind is expected to take precedence. However acknowledging your emotions and allowing them to be there is often all that may be required to release and to restore balance.
